2010 30-34 National Champion Matthew Payne of Columbia Heights, finished fifth among amateur men (1st 30-34) this morning at New Orleans 69.1, which due to high wind and water was converted to a duathlon. Kevin O'Connor and DKT raced at Powerman Alabama yesterday. (David is a three-time PM AL champ!) Here is Kevin's race report.

Let me start by saying that the race is one of the "must do" races. It is very challenging but not over the top hard. Team Magic does a first rate job of race production and it was clear that everyone was enjoying themselves. The 10k, 60k, 10k course is completely in the confines of Oak Mountain State Park (photo below). The run course is like shaped like a upper case letter "Y". Just got home from Miami International Tri, 24 hours of driving plus a race within 2.5 days! I did not do the clermont draft legal race 2 weeks ago due to a strained hip muscle, but now am back in action. The race was super fun, and I even saw Jonathan Pedersen during the run (recognized the TCMC trisuit)! I couldn't find him after the race, but still cool to see a fellow Minnesotan so far from home! Two high profile Minnesota athletes traveled to Clermont Florida this past weekend to participate in the draft legal race event at Lake Louisa hosted by Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker. Patrick Parish, 2010 US Sprint National Champion, and Kate Lowrey, 2010 US Youth National Points Champion, chose to take on the early season challenge, each with specific goals and objectives in mind.
