I'm generally happy and sore today after finishing my first iron distance race (2.4 mi swim, 112 mi bike, 26.2 mi run). I finished in 3rd place in 8:36:40. The young man is mentored by established elite Scott Penticoff, who had these pithy (cool word!) e-mail comments:..

Ferociously fast first-year triathletes Sam Janicki and Claire Bootsma not only topped their respective genders, they finished 1-2 at the 5th edition of One Last Tri at picturesque Big Marine Park this morning. For Sam, it was his sixth win of the season; for Claire, her 2nd in three starts. Impressively, Bootsma, who is a totally cool person who would be even faster if she owned a tri bike, was able to out-race..
