SARTELL APPLE DUATHLON - While TED TREISE and DIANE HANKEE were busy leading the way, as expected, we had our eyes on age group performances, and there were plenty of highlights to share.

The day was tough. Warm. Humid, and especially, windy. Not a day for record-setting, yet Treise, a second year  pro, outsplit the men's field from timing mat to timing mat. His 1:22:00 gave him four and a half minutes to relax before runner-up / local star / Apple's amateur champion ANDY ZABEL made his PR performance here official.

Diane, who had also won here in 2016, relied on her run splits to secure her 1:26 win over another  former Apple champ, ELAINE NELSON, who is probably the fastest female pharmacist in our region...

SARTELL — The Apple Duathlon starts the summer for many racing athletes.

Andy Zabel, a Sartell native, has been competing in the running/cycling event since 2010, but missed last year, along with everyone else, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Zabel isn't the only one excited to have the race back; race director Evin Haukos was looking forward to the 39th annual Apple Duathlon. ...

After a long racing hiatus, I wasn’t sure if this was still my jam. I’ve found great joy from spontaneous sporty adventures this past year (among other things), and was having some internal conflict whether focused training/racing was still for me.

I had a ‘free’ entry to this event from a 2020 Coeur D’Alene deferral, so figured it would be a perfect opportunity to test my love for racing while gaining valuable course insights for my athletes and friends racing the World Championships here in September.

It was indeed satisfying to get back to structured triathlon training after ski season. Well, despite the ~10day break after testing positive for C19 early March. Needless to say, I’m extremely grateful for my health and never take this for...

Race Report – Aquabike  - May 1, 2021 - Sebring, Florida

My last race was exactly 9 months ago on August 1, 2020. A local Minnesota sprint triathlon at Big Lake, MN. Prior to that all my races in 2020 were cancelled due to COVID making the last year very challenging to maintain focus and training to reach goals. Our hopes and plans to race at local, national and international world competitions were diminished in 2020.

With vaccines increasing and COVID cases declining, the Sebring Multisport Festival held the promise to provide an opportunity to race with new health safety protocols along with qualifying for Team USA. My husband, Jeff, and I made the decision to sign up for our first ever Olympic distance Aquabike. At the August 1 triathlon 9 months ago, Jeff experienced an unfortunate injury of rupturing his...

Ted, Rachel & CY Excel at N. American Champs...

Several triathletes with strong Minnesota ties excelled at the North American 70.3 Championships in hilly St. George, Utah last weekend. Check out these performances:

TED TREISE - Sophomore pro / 2020 Minnesota Triathlete of the Year lowered his 70.3 personal best from 4:08:29  at Augusta 2018, to 4:07:33 on the vastly more challenging southern Utah course. As a newcomer to pro racing he is focused as much on beating elite amateurs as he is on being competitive with established professional stars. He almost occomplished that last weekend, as only one elite amateur, Andrew Hall,  Utah's premier non-pro long distance triathlete according to Utah Tri Buzz, had a faster time. Hall, who like  Teddy, also PRed, his 4:04:58 bettering his prior best (4:07) by more than two minutes. ...
